Medical Coder/Biller

Position Summary:  The individual in this position will support varying clients and operational projects to improve the overall efficiency of the coding/billing process and effectiveness of the staff.  The candidate must be able to meet productivity standards daily, which includes quality and compliance. The individual is also expected to communicate effectively with designated client representative and Alltran management regarding billing and coding, as well as any other concerns the department may have.     

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Excellent verbal, interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to effectively liaison between internal and external clients.  
  • Ability to plan, develop and coordinate multiple projects
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, w/advanced skills in Excel
  • Ability to code based on CMS guidelines.
  • Must remain current on coding/reimbursement requirements of Medicaid, Medicare and other third party payers.
  • Demonstrates competence in communication and interpersonal relations, community orientation and stewardship.
  • Ability to maintain minimum standards of productivity and accuracy.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Demonstrates an ability to maintain confidentiality to protect patient, physician, client and Alltran.
  • All other appropriate duties, as assigned.

Job Requirements

Minimum Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Certification from American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) or American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) as a CPC, CCS-P, CEMC or CPMA .
  • At least 2 years’ experience working in a FQHC or Rural Health environment or physician clinic experience.
  • Facility and DRG coding/billing experience is a plus
  • Extensive knowledge of medical billing and payment methodologies, including coding guidelines for ICD-10, HCPCS and CPT.
  • Knowledge of federal guidelines and third party payer requirements.
  • Maintain up to date knowledge of the current changes in coding practices and laws.
